The history of political nationalism in Wales c. 1925–2025 (Welsh-medium course)
The National Party of Wales (now Plaid Cymru) was established in the summer of 1925, giving a new face to political nationalism in Wales. As it turns 100 years old, this half-day Welsh-medium course will offer a critical taste of its history and place it within the context of other forms of nationalism in Wales.
This session will be delivered by lecturers in History, Religion, and Welsh from Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP, before concluding with a substantial oral history interview to end the day. This will be a conversation between the experienced journalist Nia Thomas and Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister of Wales (2007–2011) and leader of Plaid Cymru (2000–2012), who is now a doctoral researcher at Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP. He will trace his political career from the 1970s onwards, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities faced by him, Plaid Cymru, and Wales during the period.
