What does this mean for Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP employees?
If you are already an active member of a pension scheme, this will have little effect.
If you are not currently a member of a scheme then you will be affected by auto-enrolment.
Support Staff (Grade 1 to 6)
If you are a member of the support staff, you will be auto enrolled into the Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP Pension Plan (BUPP), if you meet the criteria. All members of the support staff between the ages of 18 and 60 are eligible at the start of their employment to join Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP Pension & Assurance Scheme. Membership after this time is at the discretion of the Trustees of the scheme, but if you are interested in joining or re-joining the Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP Pension & Assurance Scheme, please contact the Secretary to the Trustees, Eluned Hughes, Finance Services.
The University has a statutory duty to enrol eligible jobholders (EJ's) into a pension scheme if they are not already members of a scheme. An EJ is any member of staff who:
- is aged between 22 and state pension age, and
- is earning more than £10,000 per annum (£833 a month)
Staff will be auto-enrolled into the Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP Pension Plan (BUPP).
Academic and Professional Staff (Grade 7 and above)
If you are a member of the academic or professional staff, you will be auto-enrolled into USS if you meet the criteria (unless you are already in receipt of a pension from USS – in this case you will be auto-enrolled into the Ï㽶ÊÓƵAPP Pension Plan (BUPP).

Casual Workers
The term 'casual worker' refers to anybody who may work for short periods on an ad-hoc basis on behalf of the University. This is usually for one-offs or certain events and does not include regular contracted staff.
If you are a casual worker, you will be auto-enrolled into The National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) if you meet the criteria.
